Cocoa contains flavonols, which prevent fat-like substances in the bloodstream from oxidizing and clogging the arteries. They also make blood platelets less likely to stick together and cause clots. Flavonoids are plant compounds with potent antioxidant properties. The result is lower blood pressure and lower cholesterol levels.
Generally, science has found that dark chocolate is higher in flavonoids than milk chocolate. Dark chocolate contains serotonin, which acts as an anti-depressant. It also contains theobromine, caffeine and other substances which are stimulants.
